Bridget Westenra

LLB

Bridget works in all areas of family law. She is a Court appointed Lawyer for Child and Lawyer for adults who lack the capacity to manage their own affairs.

Bridget specialises in relationship property work, litigation relating to deceased estates, mental health work, care of children, domestic violence and protection orders.

Born in the Waikato and brought up for the first ten years of her life on a farm at Te Akau, Bridget went to school in Hamilton before graduating from Auckland University with an LLB in 1989.

Bridget commenced her career as a lawyer at a small legal firm in Auckland where she quickly moved into the area of family law. After a two year stint in a law firm in London in the early 1990’s, Bridget returned to Auckland and worked in Panmure followed by some time at the Mangere Community Law Centre.

Bridget and her partner have lived in Whangarei since 1997. Their four children have now all grown up and left home. Bridget initially worked for a local law firm here, but then set up her own practice in 2002. In 2008, she and Christina Cook formed the law firm Cook Westenra Ltd. In 2014, after Christina had been appointed to the Bench as a Judge, Megan Wills became a director and the firm was renamed Wills Westenra Ltd.

Outside of work, Bridget likes to spend time with family and friends, riding her electric bicycle, going for walks, reading, swimming and enjoying the outdoors and beach lifestyle which Whangarei has to offer.
